Musical Director

WAYNE WEAVER, eyc musical director, began his musical training as a chorister at Bradford Cathedral, aged 7. Since moving to Edinburgh in 2004 to complete a BMus (Hons.) degree he has held appointments as a choral scholar at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Organ scholar, at St Giles’ Cathedral and has recently been appointed Organist & Director of the Music at St Ninian’s Parish Church.

Having recently completed an MMus degree focussing on early keyboard performance, Wayne has spent his student days participating in a great many musical events around the city and further a field. Recently with the Palladian consort he sang the role of Didymus in Handel’s Theodora, with Edinburgh Studio Opera he participated both and on and ‘under’ the stage in productions of Blow’s Venus & Adonis, Handel’s Acis & Galetea and Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, (working during the latter as Chorus Master & Assistant Musical Director) and he has been a member of the Edinburgh University Singers (working in their recent Delphian CD recording and tour of Tuscany as assistant conductor).

Wayne has twice been granted a place in the Edinburgh University Tovey Memorial Prize Competition and from time to time enjoys taking part in masterclasses. His various prizes and awards include the Ian Pitt-Watson prize for choral conducting, a Bucher-Fraser Scholarship, and the Janet Buckley Memorial Prize for work in the field of early music performance.

Accompanist

JOANNA STEWART, eyc accompanist, was born and educated in Edinburgh at the Mary Erskine School for Girls before being awarded the Eric Bowden Entrance Scholarship to study piano and oboe at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.  Since graduating she has taught piano at George Watson’s College and performs regularly as a soloist and accompanist across Scotland.  She also enjoys singing and was a member of the RSNO Chorus for over 10 years, as well as having sung with the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union.  Joanna has been eyc’s accompanist since 2003 and also accompanies the Erskine Stewart's Melville Community Choir.
