The edinburgh youth choir was established in September 2000 as the youth choir of the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union under the musical directorship of Dorcas Owen. eyc is a mixed choir of young people of all abilities, ranging in age from 12 to 24; its principal aim is to provide vocal training through a variety of musical styles from Byrd to the Beatles.
From November 2006 to May 2008, Dominic Peckham, as Musical Director, led the choir through a series of highly successful performances including its 2007 Christmas concert, the Sundays at Seven series at Helensburgh Kirk and a collaborative concert with Glasgow Youth Choir. Under Areti Lymperopoulou, the eyc took part in a celebratory concert at the start of the ERCU's 150th anniversary season in St Mary's RC Cathedral.
Under Musical Director Wayne Weaver, eyc took part alongside ERCU in the World Premiere of Shadow Aspect composed by Judith Bingham.
The choir's next concert is a performance their annual Spring Concert which takes place on Monday 22 March at Canongate Kirk, Edinburgh at 7.30pm.
