The city’s largest choir, the Edinburgh Royal Choral Union, joins forces with the Halifax Choral Society for an afternoon of choral and organ splendour. The programme includes Vaughan Williams's Five Mystical Songs - settings of poems by the 17th-century poet George Herbert; Zoltán Kodály’s Missa Brevis - written under the full stress of the Second World War in 1942 while Kodály was hiding with his friends in Budapest from occupying German forces; and the champion of French organ music – Charles-Marie Widor’s magnificent Organ Mass. The two choirs will be conducted by ERCU’s “conspicuously attentive and adept young conductor” Michael Bawtree with organ accompaniment provided by Morley Whitehead.
Tickets (£12, £15; concessions £10, student £5) available from Usher Hall Box office 0131 228 1155 or www.usherhall.co.uk
